Mt. Pleasant Colliery
1861 - 1934/1955

1861 - June - Opened by Messrs. Lahiff and Fawcett. Mr. Patrick Lahiff was first Manager.

1862 - Tramway built from mine to Wollongong Harbour.

1867 - Acquired by James and William Byrnes.

1873 - Installation of self acting incline. (Photo.#13 HCMA "Steam driven haulage")

1885 - coal in #1 tunnel worked out. New adit 500 yds north of #1 tunnel.

1886 - North Mt. Pleasant Mine opens. 1.5 miles north of original site.

1888 - The Mt. Pleasant Coal Iron Mining Co. Pty Ltd.

1889 - Mt. Pleasant Coke Ovens built (near railway bridge at Nth Wollongong.

1933 - Mt. Pleasant Colliery closes.

1934 - Mt. Pleasant Colliery went into liquidation and was purchased by Ebenezer Vickery and Sons 10/9/34 and changing the name to Keira Pleasant Tunnels.

1937 - (26/1/37) the colliery was taken over by BHP
1937 - (5/8/37)Osborne Wallsend Colliery holes into No. 5 NE Mt. Pleasant to improve their ventilation. (MP15)
1937 - (28/10/37) second holing by Osborne Wallsend Colliery

1938 - November - power supply house at Mt. Pleasant Colliery restarted and used for Osborne Wallsend (Mt. Keira Colliery).

1941 - prospecting undertaken in #3 (Wongawilli) seam.

1950 - (6/9/50) Operations in #3 (Wongawilli) seam at Mt Keira Colliery ceases, work at Mt. Pleasant restarted. A 300 ton bunker is taken from Mt. Keira Wongawilli project to Mt. Pleasant.

1950 - (16/12/50) production recommences at Mt. Pleasant using road haulage.

1955 - (30/9/55) operations cease and the mine sealed. All equipment returned to Osborne Wallsend Colliery.

1978 - into voluntary liquidation ?
